Description
The School District of West Allis-West Milwaukee is currently seeking an Interim Athletic Director for Central High School.
Coverage will last through Janurary 19th, 2026.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities:
Personnel
- Recruits, interviews, hires, and provides onboarding to fill vacant coaching positions.
- Provides mentoring support and assistance to develop coaching staff.
- Observes and evaluates coaches annually using a variety of tools.
- Interprets board policy to coaches.
- Supervision and Evaluation of coaches and other departments as assigned.
- Responds and works to resolve conflicts that arise with coaches, athletes and parents. This includes conducting thorough and accurate investigations.
- Reviews and makes recommendations to building principals for coaches to attend clinics or conferences.
- Maintains accurate record of coaching staff and years of service
Athletic Program Operations
- Develops all game schedules. Maintains contest contract forms in school files and approves the publication of all schedules.
- Maintains the scheduling and facility preparations of all contests, meetings, practices, etc. in the district facility scheduling system.
- Contracts all contest officials including those assigned by the Conference.
- Makes arrangements for all transportation, lodging and meals, as required.
- Attends all home athletic contests and/or arranges for proper supervision. Coordinates attendance of administrative personnel.
- Cancels or postpones contracted contests, officials and transportation because of weather or other hazardous conditions.
- Maintains a permanent file of medical examinations, insurance forms, records, parent consent forms, insurance payments, emergency treatment forms, concussion and cardiac arrest forms, etc., for each participating athlete.
- Maintains permanent records for each sport, such as wins and losses, outstanding records, letter winners, individual and team recognition, etc.
- Maintains a file of all athletic suspensions and expulsions from teams.
- Determines scholastic eligibility of all candidates for athletic teams on a weekly/grading period/semester basis and for certifying their eligibility on the proper state forms.
- Works with the principal, band director, cheerleading advisors and coaches to schedule athletic assemblies, pep rallies, and performances to support events.
- Participates in contract negotiations to secure Athletic Training services and arranges for Athletic Trainer at home contests and larger athletic events.
- Works with school trainers to establish procedures for the management and safe operation of the training room.
- Coordinates set-up of physical plant for sports programming.
- Plans, organizes and supervises all athletic awards programs and end of season banquets with the approval of the principal.
- Represents the school at league, conference and state meetings.
- Attends and serves as school liaison at all athletic booster club meetings.
- Responsible for the overall operation of the school weight and cardio rooms.
Communication
- Effectively communicates pertinent information to the principal, Recreation and Community Services Department and the Communications Department staff.
- Creates communication materials to promote participation, events, and generate support
- Creates publicity for all sports, including sports brochures, press releases, social media posts, etc.
- Assists the booster club in the preparation and distribution of contest programs.
- Coordinates and supervises the public address system operation at the various games, all radio, television and streaming services, and media requests.
- Reviews and updates the athletic code of conduct and coach handbook annually.
Collaboration
- Effectively collaborates with the other athletic director in West Allis to grow a shared vision for sports participation and use of shared facilities.
- Effectively collaborates with building principal, Recreation & Community Services Department and district personnel to develop, implement, and manage sports programming effectively.
- Support, implement, review the district athletic strategic plan.
Budgeting/Resources
- Works with coaches, high school principal and business office to develop the annual athletic budgets.
- Accountable for all payments, fees collected, tracking expenditures, processing supplementary contracts and official payments.
- Assumes responsibility for game management at all home contests and for the accounting deposit of gate receipts.
- Seeks ways to support and finance athletic programming through fundraising.
- Submits any necessary financial reports to the Building Principal.
Equipment
- Works collaboratively with the Facility & Maintenance Department regarding outdoor athletic field preparation and maintenance; makes recommendations as needed.
- Receives and evaluates equipment requests from authorized coaches. Approves appropriate requests.
- Provides for the cleaning, repairing and storing of all athletic equipment. Maintains an accurate inventory of all equipment.
Sports Feeder Team Programming
- Serves as liaison with the Head Coach to support junior feeder programs.
- Provide leadership and direction to junior program that best supports preparation for high school participation.
- Works with the Head Coach to hold coaching clinics, training, etc.
- Serves as liaison to Recreation & Community Services Department personnel who will assist with records and registration for sports feeder team programming (e.g., medical examinations, concussion forms, fees, etc.).
- Serves as a liaison to the Recreation Department and Parent Representative for the implementation and expansion of sports feeder team programming (e.g., promotion, fundraising, etc.)
Other
- Performs other duties (daily, monthly, annually) as directed by the building principal this may include but is not limited to; lunch duty, hallway sweeps, homecoming dance supervision, etc.
- Any other responsibilities assigned by the superintendent.
