HANFORD FIRE DEPARTMENT

Base compensation annually (Firefighter-Area): Start $74,784 - up to $104,996.

*Growth potential in the company officer ranks up to $143,306.

HFD is currently recruiting to fill several Firefighter-EMT openings. To be considered an eligible candidate for interview, at the time of application all candidates must possess:

1. Current and valid National Testing Network (NTN) fire TEAM test and have a combined score over 80% (Minimum score of 70% in each element)

2. Current and valid NTN Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT)

3. IFSAC or ProBoard Firefighter 1

4. IFSAC or ProBoard Hazardous Materials Awareness

5. IFSAC or ProBoard Hazardous Materials Operations

6. Current Washington State Emergency Medical Technician-Basic or National Registry Emergency Medical Technician-Basic

7. Conditional offers may be extended with the proviso that all new hires complete and pass an NFPA 1582 "Medical Evaluation of Firefighter Candidates" evaluation at our Occupational Medical Provider.

As a condition of hire, all Firefighter-EMTs hired under this posting will be required to become certified Washington State Dept. of Health WA-EMT at the end of the sixteen-week recruit academy. These details will be discussed at the time of offer, and our training staff will assist in the certification process.

Successful candidates will be notified directly via email and must submit color copies of the required training records in Adobe .PDF format to the HMIS HR Staffing department for validation before an interview time will be scheduled.

Training provided:

HFD holds a 16-week new-hire Firefighter academy, held at the Department of Energy's HAMMER training center. Recruits completing the HFD new-hire academy will receive IFSAC or ProBoard Firefighter II certification as well as job specific related training in many areas, including multiple "Rescue" types and Radiological hazards Firefighting.

As a condition of hire, all Firefighters will be enrolled in the Washington State Joint Apprenticeship Training Council - Firefighter 6000-hour apprenticeship program with the expectation of obtaining a Journeyman Firefighter certificate.

Upon completion of the sixteen-week recruit academy, Firefighter new-hires may petition the Joint Apprenticeship Training Council board for recognition of previous training to be applied toward the Journeyman Firefighter Certificate. Each step granted in the program comes with a commensurate increase in the hourly rate of pay.
