Information Security Officer

Location: Onsite/Hybrid in Columbia, South Carolina
Type: Contract, W2 Only (no third party candidates please)

We are seeking an experienced Information Security Officer to drive the development, implementation, and oversight of security policies and procedures. This role plays a pivotal part in ensuring compliance with industry frameworks, maintaining a strong security posture, and promoting a culture of awareness across the organization.

What You'll Do

• Implement and maintain information security policies aligned with company standards.
• Collaborate with business and technical stakeholders to ensure policies are practical, enforceable, and relevant.
• Maintain and update the organizational policy repository to reflect current requirements.
• Translate high-level policies into actionable procedures and guidelines for both technical and non-technical staff.
• Prepare clear documentation to support audits, training, and daily operations.
• Monitor compliance with internal policies and external regulations, conducting risk assessments and recommending mitigation strategies.
• Provide documentation and evidence for audits and compliance reviews.
• Support security awareness initiatives, including training and outreach.
• Advise on policy interpretation and implementation across departments.
• Stay informed of emerging threats, technologies, and industry best practices, recommending updates to policies as needed.

What You Bring

• Bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience).
• 3+ years of experience in information security, policy development, or compliance .
• 3+ years working with recognized frameworks (NIST, ISO 27001, CIS Controls).
• Strong technical writing and communication skills, with the ability to translate complex policies into practical guidance.
• Security certifications (CISSP, CISM, ISO 27001 Lead Implementer) are preferred.
