Site Manager

SCHOTT Advanced Optics (Duryea, PA) is a division of SCHOTT North America and is a valuable partner for developing products and customized solutions for applications in optics, astronomy, opto-electronics, augmented reality, life sciences, and research. SCHOTT Advanced Optics masters the value chain, from development to finishing and metrology, with its portfolio of over 120 glasses.

ATTRACTIVE SKILLS/EXPERIENCES:

  • Bachelor Degree in Engineering, Chemistry, or Physics
  • Experience (10+ years) in leadership/management capacity in a manufacturing setting
  • Experience in a leadership/management capacity supporting lean manufacturing (or similar concepts) in production, supply chain or production services (quality, maintenance, engineering, process development)
  • Extensive knowledge of Lean Manufacturing techniques, Six Sigma methodology and EHS
  • Knowledge of finishing/fabrication technologies, manufacturing systems and technology
  • Knowledge of SAP (PP, PM, BI) or other ERP/ MRP systems
  • Demonstrated abilities with MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

SUMMARY / RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Promotes the future development of the site and contributes proactively to the development of the site strategy.
  • Cooperates closely with the SBF Head, Product Management and Sales. Implements SBF strategies and innovation roadmaps.
  • Ensures deliverance of goods and services to the business segments or their customers in the required quantity, quality, on time and upon agreed prices.
  • Initiates and ensures the development and sustainable implementation of improved production procedures.
  • Initiates and ensures the development and sustainable implementation of improved supply chain procedures.
  • Initiates and ensures the development and sustainable implementation of improved quality, maintenance, engineering, process development and application development procedures.
  • Optimizes the use of capacity at the sites in agreement with the Head of Global Operations.
  • Conducts required capacity alignment. Ensures cost and quality effective Capital Expenditures (CapEx)
  • Plans and monitors cost, headcount, and CapEx budgeting, and ensures adherence to the budgets.
  • Leads, supports, and motivates the employees in his/her area of responsibility.
  • Ensures workplace safety and avoidance of accidents.
  • Ensures process safety and avoidance of environmental incidents.
  • Ensures alignment of site with SCHOTT vision, mission, and strategy.
  • Ensures compliance with the SCHOTT code of conduct and other SCHOTT policies.
  • Represents the site locally. Serve as the primary point of contact for local authorities and institutions, and as the integration person for the employees on site. Ensure effective and positive cooperation with the local works council or union representatives.
  • Lean Manufacturing: Arranges for processes to be designed according to the principles of Lean Operations and ensures these are complied with. Is responsible for the implementation of Lean Operations and oversees the execution of the corresponding processes. Is responsible for the sustainability of the Lean Initiative in his or her area, especially when it comes to the initial training of new personnel. Ensures that the existing qualification structures of the personnel are sustained and continuously improved and is thus responsible for regular training and activities aimed at refreshing skills in the area of Lean Operations. Keeps himself or herself aware of new developments in the area of Lean Operations by participating in advanced training courses.
  • EHS: Ensures adherence to the local laws, and also to internal and operational guidelines in the area of responsibility (e.g., EHS, job safety, etc.) by proxy of the management – in case the position incumbent is not represented by the management. In this context the management has direct authority to give directives. Develops improvement concepts and/or improves already existing concepts for EHS in close corporation with BU EHS representative and ensures implementation of those concepts in his/her area of responsibility.
