STATE PARK INTERPRETER I – INTERPRETATION AND EDUCATION DIVISION / OHV INTERPRETIVE PROGRAM / SACRAMENTO

The reporting location for this position is 715 P Street in Sacramento, CA. This position will work under the direction of State Park Interpreter III.   

The State Park Interpreter I will be responsible for delivering creative interpretive programs and messaging in the world of Off-Highway Motor Vehicle Recreation (OHMVR), with opportunities to operate off-highway vehicles (OHV) and incorporate them into interpretive programming. The position will develop mobile and online field trips with a focus on STEM/STEAM learning to connect K-12 classrooms with off-highway recreation. Additional opportunities may include graphic design of various outreach materials, interacting with the public at outreach events throughout the state, and working with State Vehicular Recreation Areas to assist in the development of interpretive programs. The State Park Interpreter I will play a crucial role in educating the  public about the rules, regulations, and best practices associated with off-highway recreation, ensuring their safety while fostering a deep appreciation for California’s natural and cultural resources.

Training and Development Assignments may be considered.

Extensive travel may be required. Possession of a valid driver’s license is required when operating a state owned or leased vehicle.

This position is designated as telework eligible-office centered.

Working Conditions

This position travels frequently to participate in related meetings, programs, and outreach events. Work environment may have moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, elevations, dirt, dust, fumes, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises. Occasional to frequent work outside of office, in a field environment. Work in a range of climatic environments from hot, dry deserts, coastal beaches, cool forests, and mountainous areas. May be exposed to extreme weather and traffic conditions. May operate and navigate 4x4 vehicles, ATVs, ROVs or motorcycles in remote park locations. Walking or hiking into remote areas of parks with a wide range of terrain.

Special Requirements
