General Job Summary

Kirkwood Community College is seeking a part-time Adjunct Instructor of Technical Writing to teach in-person on the Cedar Rapids Main Campus during the Fall 2025 semester. Technical Writing (ENG-108) provides students with concepts, principles, and practical experience in writing and analyzing documents relevant to business, science (including health occupations), and industry. This is a Liberal Arts transfer course that fulfills the Composition II requirement. In order to be considered, applicants must meet the minimum qualifications.

This is a full 16-week semester appointment , running from August 25 to December 12, 2025 .

The Instructor Will Teach The Following In-person Course Sections

  • Monday, Wednesday, Friday: 9:05 AM – 10:00 AM
  • Tuesday: 2:20 PM – 3:15 PM, Thursday: 12:20 PM – 1:15 PM


There is a strong possibility for the instructor to teach additional courses in subsequent semesters.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Constant (67-100%)

  • Teach and assess learning in Technical Writing using established outcomes and instructional materials.
  • Deliver instruction in person and engage students in practical writing tasks for professional and technical fields.
  • Maintain course syllabi, evaluate student progress, and provide timely feedback.
  • Refer students to appropriate support services when necessary.

  • Organize and adapt instruction to a diverse student population.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A conferred Master’s degree by date of appointment from an accredited institution with:
  • At least 12 graduate hours in a combination of English, Communication, Creative Writing, Journalism, Literature, Speech, Technical Writing, or English Education coursework.
  • At least 6 of the 12 graduate hours must be in English or Communication.
  • Coursework, experience teaching technical writing, or professional experience as a technical writer is required.


Preferred Qualifications, Licenses, Certifications, Or Registrations

  • College-level teaching experience in Technical Writing or related courses.
  • Familiarity with community college teaching environments.
  • Experience working with English Language Learners.
  • Graduate coursework in composition pedagogy or writing instruction.
