City Lit Books in Logan Square is looking for part-time booksellers to join our team! We are a cozy indie bookstore specializing in new fiction, children’s books, and contemporary non-fiction. Retail experience and/or background in literary fields is strongly preferred.

Starting rate is $18-19/hr; negotiable depending on experience. All booksellers receive a generous discount as well as paid time off. Must have weekend and evening availability!

Basic Duties:

• Sit, stand, and walk. Pick up and carry boxes of books in the ~40lb range. Frequent inventory tasks including shelving and reorganizing.
• Retail cash handling (accurately counting drawers, handling cash transactions, counting and verifying daily deposits).
• Able to provide consistent, pleasant, and timely communication and recommendations to customers: in person, on the phone, and through email.
• Learn and use Point-of-Sale and Inventory software. Effectively search for and order books using various web platforms.
• Maintain familiarity with upcoming, top-selling, and staff-recommended books, as well as literary news and events.

• Spanish speakers a plus!
